Brown Bear’s Life in Captivity and Subsequent Rescue
For over 30 years, Fifi the brown bear endured a life of captivity. Her first decade was spent being forced to perform bewildering tricks. Following that, she spent 20 years confined to a minuscule, rusty cage, lying on a concrete slab. When PETA first encountered Fifi, she was alarmingly emaciated and suffered from agonizing, untreated arthritis.
Thankfully, in 2015, PETA and the Wild Animal Sanctuary rescued Fifi and relocated her to their stunning facility in Colorado. At the time, Fifi was already 30 years old. and they were uncertain if she could recover.
But despite being well into her 30s and enduring decades of mistreatment, Fifi made a stunning comeback in just five months under their compassionate care. Her health improved significantly, her legs grew stronger, and she finally received the chance to hibernate in her cozy new den.
Remarkably, after a mere five months at the sanctuary, Fifi’s physical condition has greatly improved. Her vibrant and lively personality is now reflected in her healthy, full body and strengthening legs. At age 30, Fifi finally has the chance to hibernate – something she has never experienced before. She is now resting peacefully in her cozy den for the winter. Rest well, dear Fifi!
